RE: [RC] Gaited horse statistics - Kristen A FisherIf one parent is an Arabian and one is not, the result is a half-arab, and can and should be listed as such in AERC IMO. Whether or not it is registered with the AHA is an entirely separate point. AERC chooses to let people self-identify what their horse's breed is. A grade is not registered so if you have an arabian that is not registered it is a grade not half arabian. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Levasseur" <sharon1359@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Michael Maul" <mmaul@xxxxxxxxx> Cc: "ridecamp" <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2006 1:22 PM Subject: Re: [RC] Gaited horse statisticsI bet I wasn't the only person who thought since my horsedidn't have aregistration number, I wasn't ALLOWED to choose half-Arab. I'll be making the change soon, thanks. Although, if thereWAS a "gaited"designation I think I would not mark it, as the trot is ourendurance gaitof choice. His foxtrot is too slow. The only reason I evertell anyone he'sgaited is that the vets sometimes see him foxtrot and if Ididn't tellthem in advance they'd definitely be surprised!! Thanks, -Sharon L. & Zephyr the Arab/RMH Quoting Michael Maul <mmaul@xxxxxxxxx>:Laney, The categories we have now just "grew" in response tomember requestsfor their particular breed. If I had to guess - half Arab means that the horse is listed in the partbred section of the AHA registry and that Arab cross is not. I could be wrong on this. In the partbred AHA records - we can get pedigrees for AAHR and HAHR. I personally would chose grade only if I didn't have anyclue what thebreed was. Other is if none of the other 59 categoriesfits but is areal breed. There are certainly horses that gait and the ownerdoesn't have a cluewhat they are. At the Old Glory ride last w/e, I was riding behind a galand noticedshe wasn't posting. I asked her what type of gaited horse she was riding and she didn't know. She certainly liked riding him though. Making sure your horse is listed correctly in the recordshelps us getbetter statistics for breed awards as well as just better data. I wish that the "arab cross" and"half arab"groups could be combined because they are the samething. However, itwould be very nice to know what the other "half" or"cross" is too. Iffolks are interested in whether a horse is gaited ornot, there shouldbe a way to indicate that for breeds where it wouldn'tbe normal. Thatwould include even "arab cross" and "half arab." Thereare also gaitedappaloosas, morgans and quite a few others, including "arab" and certainly "grade." laney=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
