[RC] Horses and climate adjustments - Jennifer Adam

I've been reading with interest the comments about how fast horses adjust to heat and humidity. But don't forget that altitude changes are also a factor in a horse's athletic performance. Granted, I'm an endurance newbie, but I have a degree in agriculture (emphasis animal science and biology). We were taught that changes in altitude can have a greater effect on horses than simple temperature changes. What do you think?? Has anyone noticed this, or is this an example of a "fact" that doesn't apply in the real world??
Curious,
Jen
