Re: [RC] pulsing down arabs vs gaited - Sharon LevasseurMy gelding is half-Arab, half Rocky Mountain Horse, and is gaited (foxtrot) but also trots normally. In competition we trot most of the time because it's faster. He isn't as lean as a full-blooded Arab but in the summer months he's not bad. I'll let you judge for yourself... here he is last month with a friend of mine aboard: http://www.zegifts.com/photos/Beach-002.jpg And nekkid last fall: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/Sharon1359/9-3_54.jpg He has never failed to make recovery criteria within the time alloted by CTR rules... he's usually down to 60 as soon as I enter the vet check area, and down to 42 or so within 5-10 minutes of the finish. His resting heartrate at home is 28 but at rides it's 30-32. -Sharon L. in Maine Quoting mary@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx: I have heard that arabs pulse down much quicker than gaited horses. I know that a horse's body shape has a lot to do retaining heat... big muscles vs lean. If you can tell us how your arab or gaited horse pulses down, I'd love hearing. Let us know if your horse is slab sided or round or lean muscled or what, I 'd love to hear the difference in recoveries.
