[RC] Parelli - spooking/trainers - REVAMPED 2004 - Christy HawesI use to think Parelli was a joke- people followed him like the occult. Saw some really stupid stuff coming from my Pony Club parents (I was a Pony Club District Commissioner)THEN I met someone who used it correctly. THEN I found out the program was COMPLETELY REVAMPED in 2004. I bought the program and was ready to pick it apart. Well, to start, you hardly see Pat all at - Linda does it all. If you have not seen the new programs with Linda, it's worth a look. She is fabulous. Pat pops in now and then, but it's all about Linda, who does make mistakes and lets you see it - wow, she let us see Remmer almost buck her off. Her humility is very impressive. She works with some super hot warmbloods. You get to see lots of examples and mistakes, and what it is supposed to look like step by step. Level I is all about safety and the relationship with your horse. It was re-vamped to work for total beginners! Level II is confidence and harmony with lots of safety. Number one rule is - get off! Linda preaches not to even get on if its not safe, some people will need to go to level III on the ground before getting on. I have a hot 15.3 Anglo. I was ready to sell her. I am not an unexperienced horse person, but I thought this 5 year old might be too much for me. It broke my heart to sell her but did not want to get hurt. I'm going to say it..... Parelli fixed our problems and I am a die-hard Parelli convert now. I have all the answers I was ever looking for. When she spooks, gets hot, whatever, I have answers and they REALLY WORK. I mean, seriously, it totally works. The horse comes running across 70 acres to see me. Every minute with this horse is a compliment to me and to the program. It's the best relationship I've ever had in my life. I get along better with Zarah than I do my mom - because we have better commnication! Level one should take a few months, level II will take about a year or more, Level III your horse should be ready for showing, etc. As you can see, Parelli is not a quick fix. True Parelli people work on their horses for years. SO, please, before you slam Parelli, get your hands on one of the NEW programs and view it. I hope you will be as pleasantly surprised as I. And no, I will never ask my horse to jump picnic tables, in fact, haven't seen that done lately even on RFD TV. You know, it takes time to tweek any program and I think they have figured it out.
