** Best suggestion, call
your vet and get ' what' antidotes available - if live ' that' far away.**
Plus, will probably need antibiotics, ?
tetanus, anti-inflammatory, and pain control . Thank goodness - I have
never had to use, but -- two, 6 inch
lengths of good garden hose in your first aid kit is a good idea if you
are in a snakey area -if horse bit around head area, and if
horses' nose starts to swell insert them - can save from suffocation due to
nasal swelling.May have to secure - tied in with halter or other
method,( taped, or sutured) as have to be inserted before nasal
passages swell shut.Your vet should be able to instruct you. Thankfully,
I have not yet had a horse snakebit, ( Fingers crossed, X) , but
used to have a dog, that - though really not stupid, could not tell difference
between a snake and a really 'fun' stick - " it would move all by itself !!? OH
Boy!" Got bit twice in one year, both times around head, thankfully,
he was a large breed, or snake did not fully inject venom.?- he just
swelled up and looked like 'snoopy cartoon' - had really big head and nose
for several days, and felt 'bad' for couple days - treated with antibiotics, and
time, for most part - but that was years ago, don't remeber that dogs need
tetanus shot, did not give any other meds, that I remember, generally - if live
past first couple hrs, well, will live. And, hopefully, learn.
