[RC] Meals at Ridecamp? - Christina Schiro

What is everyones thoughts on purchasing meals at camp versus bringing your own? I have tentatively made arrangements for a caterer that we have used for other club events to serve Friday and Saturday dinners. Cost of the dinners is not included in ride entry - thought it would give riders more flexibility - but on the ride entry I am going to recommend pre-paying for the meals when they send in their entry/deposit to guarantee they get a meal. Some dinners will be available for purchase the day off. I was also considering getting one of the guys to fire up the grill and sell hot dogs, sausage, & chicken sausage, along with sides and beverages for during the day (lunch time) on Friday and Saturday. Is it all worth the effort or do people prefer to bring their own food? By the way, ridecamp will be in the middle of a State Forest, so you won't be able to just go down the street for a grocery store or restaurant. And what about hot breakfasts? Our club has put on CTR's for 20 years and we have always sold catered breakfasts, lunches, and dinners from Friday through Sunday, with the majority of people eating our meals. As a first time AERC ride mgr, not sure how the endurance crowd feels. At the rides I have been to, all of them haved offered at least some meals, but since my husband came with me as crew and made my meals, I really didn't see how many people actually ate the meals that were Not included in the ride entry fee. The group I came with or were camped adjacent to me brought their own food for the most part.
