I wouldn't want someone passing me like I was o nmy way to Oz but neither would I expect the ride to stop like a carousel just because something came loose or I had to...address a bush. I've found waiting to be quite common, even among the front-runners. If I'm riding with others (which is almost always the case), I will always wait if someone needs to tighten a girth, pee, or just dig out a water bottle. Actually, in the case of a female rider who needs to pee, I ride around the next curve and wait there. I see this the same as waiting at water until all of the horses who arrived in a group are finished drinking. Hmm, a little anecdote about that. Over his long career Kahlil learned to drink early, drink deep. We could be only a couple of miles from the start, riding with a large group, and if he saw a puddle he'd dive in and tank up, while the whole bunch rode off out of sight. We'd always catch up, though. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
