I suspect a hot shot would just piss off the dog. 
They don't have enough "juice" to really get a dog's
attention (although it hurts if you accidently hit
yourself with it).  Also, you'd be hard-pressed to
ride with one that is long enough to actually reach a
dog.

This is when a Tazer might be handy.  Hmmm, that's
something we haven't thought of, gang!
