[RC] Pit bulls - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Sarah ximera2@xxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== <<I have seen many pit bulls that do not even look like bulls, and I have noticed (in my opinion) that this poor type of pit is the one that is usually shown on the news after it has attacked some one.>> They probably AREN'T pit bulls. They're dogs with triangular heads and/or wrinkles, and so they get labeled pit crosses. Look at this page: http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html There's one picture of a pit bull here, but (nearly) every single one of the dogs on it has been labeled a pit and you KNOW their crosses are labeled pit crosses. The media does not fact check before claiming an attacking dog was a pit. In this area, we've had to instances where attacks were repeatedly called pit attacks on TV and in the newspaper despite being told the correct breed. Andtalk about prejudice -- the media was covering a dog event day. They were filming agility until a pit came on. Then they stopped until another cute, furry dog came on. I guess it wouldn't look too good to promote pits as anything but monsters. I like how Cowboy Ed said it -- "If you're attacked by a genuine mean fighting dog...." Leave the breed out of it. A lot of "pits" aren't pit bulls. A lot of pits are going to ru away because that true fight mode hasn't triggered. And if you happen to get a mastiff-type that pursues with the same intensity, it won't matter that it wasn't a "pit." Get away from the name calling and just say, "If a dog attacks and persists, then...." =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
