One of most important issues is padding as most
treeless don't have panels which raise them off the spine. A few do
(Carlton model of Ansur, Startrekk, Trekker dressage)...some come with different
width pommels (Torsion, Barefoot, STartrekk, Trekker dressage), some have
flexible pommels (Rebecca treeless, Freeform; torsion and Trekker pommels can be
removed and pommel stuffed)...some have choices of stirrup position (Freeform,
Trekker, Startrekk)...Barefoot and Bob Marshall Sport saddles can come with
horns....
In the under $1,000 range, my current favorites are
Barefoot and Trekker....have not tried Dartmour treefree.....
I have seen a Hilason up close and did not feel
quality was worth even the low price; one person said it is put together with
staples and glue....and they do have rigid pommels that may be too narrow on
some horses (as well as sport saddles)
See the extensive links page on yahoo treeless
saddle group
What do you guys think of them? I've just started college,
and it will probably be a bit before I can afford a new/slightly used saddle,
I found a few I really like but they are hardly within my price
range. (So I'm waiting for now.)
I would really like and endurance saddle w/o horn, but with western
style stirups.
