FW: [RC] Attacks by horses - Mike SherrellHowever, to eradicate any impression that I might possess a modicum of common sense, I do have a method for repelling aggressive horses without harm to them. This will work against almost any horse unless it has been trained for police crowd control. 1. Obtain one of those umbrellas that spring open automatically when you push a button on the handle. 2. Put on helmet, neck brace, back brace, goalie hockey mask, elbow pads, knee pads, and shin guards, take your horse to the center of a large arena with deep soft sand footing, and desensitize him by opening the umbrella from his back several times. Have an assistant record this step with a digital video camera. 3. When riding near the aggressive horse and it approaches, point the umbrella at him and push the button. 4. Post the video made in step 2 on the internet; I can't wait to watch it. You're right, I wasn't thinking -- it's out of the question to do or even threasten any harm to a horse on its own side of the fence. The image I had in my mind was the one time my wife and I were riding on a new regional park and a herd of horses apparently from a neighbor who thought he still had grazing rights came up and were quite menacing, particularly the one I took to be the lead mare. Now I read that Mike Sherrell, who usually writes with at least a modicum of common sense, is advocating shooting an AUTOMATIC pellet gun at horses, ON THEIR OWN PROPERTY, including mares and foals, part of a breeding operation? part of a breeding operation with EXPENSIVE horses? I wondered the SAME thing. If the loose horses bothered my girl so much I'd hand walk by them.
