RE: [RC] Attacks by horses - Mike SherrellI think there are automatic pellet pistols available, the kind that would shoot repeatedly with every pull of the trigger. You'd want to desensitize your horse to the sound first, of course. The only one-handed horse repeller I can think of. Pepper spray might work too, but not much range and wind could make it counter-productive. Are there good suggestions dealing with horses that charge up? We have to pass several fence lines to get to the trails. Different landowners. And different groups of horses. One pasture of yearlings, several pastures of expecting mares, a few with mares and foals, and another with a mixed herd and one aggressive gelding. The path is narrow and runs along these fence lines. No other way to get around to the trails. I have carried small pebbles, but my aim and balance on a reacting horse is poor. This is the second year and my horse still reacts. Even after many hand walks by this area. I am nervous about taking my second horse out on the trail. He is five and newly under saddle. He has a more determined way of reacting! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
