recommend an airsoft gun. Not unless you want to risk killing the dog. At close
range an airsoft can be deadly. A
paintball gun would be better. You'll need a
holster or a saddle bag for storage. You can't keep a gun in your hands
while you ride.
A hunt whip
is even better still since since it has been in use for hundreds of
years by equestrians for dog control. You can easily hold it in your hand
along with the reins (like most foxhunters do), or slid it under your saddle
flap. You can even jump off the horse and chase a dog with it.
Those whips make a frightening impression on a canine. Scares the crap out of a
dog.
