My Charlie not only protected my horses and foals, but also we were the
ONLY ones on the outskirts of New Cuyama that had barn cats. Even
though my cats may not have appreciated my Pyre at first, they learned
to "suck up" to her for survival! MANY coyotes out there!
Also, Pyres were imported to Montana to alleviate the brown bear
problem in the National Parks. It seems that Browns are the most
aggressive and "top gun" bears EXCEPT for the polar bears -- guess what
Pyres resemble!! ;-)
I do soooo much miss my Charlie, who died just before Christmas at 12
years old. I plan to get another one when my husband forgets all the
barking at coyotes at night and the fact that she never would come to
his call -- they are pretty much one owner dogs although they love
attention from everyone -- just mind one person (and not always!) I
call them the Arab of the dog world --- VERY smart and very independent
-- have to obey out of love and even then, weigh what's in it for them
;-)

The lady I bought my Morabs from
runs Great Pyrenees on her property to protect them. This is in
Arkansas, I'm not positive but I think I remember her saying they
hadn't lost any livestock to predators since the started with the Pyrs
and it has been many years they have had them.
