6) Cooling the poll can also have dramatic effects on the horse's heat dissipation. You can lodge a sponge under his halter (if he'll tolerate it) and keep adding water as the sponges dries.

**Cool-Offs makes a headpiece for horses that attaches to the crown of the bridle. It is made of synthetic chamois and holds water for 2-3 hours. I have several scarves from Cool-Offs that are bandannas with the chamois material sandwiched inside. We dunk those in water, tie around our necks and they will keep us cool in blistering heat for about 3 hours, when they need dunking again. There is also a chamois "cookie" available to place inside of your helmet.


I believe Cool-Offs products are available from several catalogs that sell endurance specialties.
