[RC] Horses and Snowstorms/Blizzards - LisaHelp, I need some opinions! I have a Thoroughbred mare (Adrienne) who seems to lose quite a lot of her mental sensibilities during really nasty snowstorms/blizzards, like we're having now in Southeastern Colorado. There's definitely a lot of input going on -- The wind is high and really whipping the trees and snow. Whenever we have a storm of this nature, Adrienne will not stay in the barn; prefers to be outside, which is fine. (If I try and lock her in the barn she becomes extremely agitated.) Adrienne always stands in this corner of the pasture where she's buffeted, and will not eat. I got up early this morning and blanketed her since she was soaking wet and shaking like crazy . . . The temps aren't that cold, around 32 degrees, and it was 38 when we went to bed last night so I didn't want to blanket her at that time. (I really need to find a light waterproof sheet for nights like this when storms are coming in.) Anyway, as she stands in her corner she's agitated, head bobs up and down, she walks in circles every now and again, and just won't eat a thing. Are these 'symptoms' some kind of survival thing? On windy days with no snow she's not like this, and during our summer thunderstorms she's just fine. Would sure appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
