[RC] Philosophy and goals in distance riding ! Long! - Carolyn Burgess

My husband is a roper and he and his Appaloosa went to a roping clinic.  All day long he was not having a good time.  His horse wouldn't cooperate and all of the other ropers were busting his chops because he doesn't have a QH.  So after a frustrating day of roping, he rode out of the arena and down the road to go trail riding.  He said that the 3 hours he spent out on the trail were much more fun than roping, for both he and the horse.  But all of the ropers thought he was nuts going out on trail.  That is was way too dangerous and how did he know what the trails would be like and where he was going.

A friend took her distance horse to some team penning one winter.  She was able to impress the other participants by only needing one horse that never seemed to get tired.  Her example actually got a number of them putting some LSD on their horses, which improved their results in arena work.
