Re: [RC] Tip your farrier???? - Jon . LindermanMy son tipped the farrier today by stacking hay & sweeping out the barn, my daughter tipped her farrier by babysitting 1/2 a day so the guy could get a break. My wife, well shes somethin' special, she sleeps with him. If you haven't figured out yet, the farrier is Dad/hubby/me. Jonni's article link gets to the heart of where $66, or $125 for that matter goes. Anyone who snivels about shoeing costs needs to take a class in small business finance & work under a horse for an hour or two and see if you'd take $66. For $66 he used nippers worth 2-3 times that, an anvil that was 4 times that at least, several thousand dollars in education, 20-30 for a decent rasp he dulled a bit today because you didn't bother to clean the mud off their feet & 30-100 for each gizmo you see in his shoeing box. Band saw, grinder, welder, forge.......how many horses do you think a guy can do for $66 a day? Just to pay for every tool & his education can you figure how many horses hes got to shoe just to pay the costs. Befre a profit? Tip him...hell yes. If you don't like the work fire his you know what and get another & tip that one too! Jon
