I could swear that when I read my first article on electrolytes, it was written by Kerry Ridgeway and he came up with the idea of dosing them after watching *yet another* horse die at Tevis. So, in all fairness would you say the death rate is the same? I realize we've learned to be safer, vets have learned to use the CRI, etc. etc. but I do believe that was what the article said. Angie One more time: no one here is saying to never use electrolytes, or that any use of electrolytes is bad for your horse. What some of us are saying (including me) is: 1. More is not always better. You can overdo electrolytes (or administer them improperly), and too much can be worse than none at all. 2. Many riders overdo electrolytes (or administer them improperly). 3. Frequent small doses are better than infrequent large doses. And, most important, 4. You have to determine what is best for YOUR horse and not just copy what someone else does. Until you are confident you have determined what's best for your horse, it's better to err on the side of caution. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
