Re: [RC] Low Tech vs High Tech//Kathleen's "Bounding" Heart - Diane TrefethenAbout 6 months ago I was riding with some new friends when one of them complained about her HRM being all over the place. She checked her connections and everything was fine. Also, she said her horse seemed a bit doggy, unusual for him. After a while I asked her if she wanted me to check him since her confidence in the HRM had dwindled considerably. She said yes so I got out my middle-grade stethoscope and listened. I could hear a fluttery extra beat. It wasn't consistent but it was definitely abnormal. I invited her to listen and she could hear it too.So even if you don't ride with an HRM, if you know your horse and he just isn't right, getting off and listening to his heart on the scope will tell you the same thing as a vacillating HRM. In my opinion, even better because you will KNOW what you hear while there is always the possibility of a malfunction with an electrical piece of equipment. Beverley H.
