[RC] Horse thru fence - L ginAt all the barns I worked at and my daughters hunter barn, and all the books I've read, and all the "horse wisdom" I have says --Always hose any swelling on the legs till it goes down , at least 2X a day, cool tap water is fine , at least 10-20 minutes. Wrapping may keep the heat in.Wounds- I heard the vet at the AERC conv. a couple years ago say ALu-shield was great on small cuts on the legs, helped keep the dirt out.... If you don't have it , maybe Furazone or Wonderdust might help the tiny scrapes. Also I'd give some thing to help bring the swelling down. Swelling is inflamation, it can and often hurts the joints (and in some cases may lead to arthrits later)--Swelling = Not good in joints. Always taught to be real concerned about wounds , even small ones on the leg joints. Did you examine caefully for embeded splinters? Could be tiney puctures and they can be nasty sometimes. I"do this , but if it gets any worse after the 2nd to 3rd day I'd get a vet out if you can afford it...... (I am not a vet-- nor rich....) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
