It is a far better idea to extend the tongue
of the trailer than to extend the ball like I have seen. There is a lot more
steel in an extended tongue than an extended hitch.
The hitch extensions that I have seen sag
and wiggle on rough ground, I cannot imagine what happens in high winds.

Questions-Debbie Kirchner
Debbie,
I pulled
a Circle J 2H Slant Load w/front dressing/tack room with a 3/4 Ton Ford
Ext. Cab 4x4 diesel carrying a 11 1/2 foot camper.
We
extended the trailer tongue alittle over 3 feet. The trailer pulled
wonderfully, we did not use stabilizer bars. We reasoned that if we
extended the truck hitch, the comfort of the horses would be compromised-like
putting a trailer hitch at the end of a school bus?
We hauled
around Missouri and then to the mountains in Colorado. We had
enough power and NO trailer sway. We did have some side blows from cross
winds while going across windy Kansas.
Backing is not a problem.
You can
get in alot of tight places with this unit that you can't get into with a
gooseneck. There are pros and cons to all rigs.
