Re: [RC] A Long Way to the Vet Check (was: Low Tech & Elyting) - rides2farSo there is a huge quantity of material/nutrients in the> HIND GUT to draw on during the course of the ride. My horse eats well the night before and I've felt confident he started on a full tank, but if he doesn't eat *during* the competition, we tend to lose gut sounds. How does that fit into the running off the tank theory? Also, one reason I dose my horses rather than put it on their feed is the same reason I dose bute, or wormer if necessary at other times...I don't want to ruin the taste of t he feed. I've seen so many endurance horses pushing their feed around because of all the selenium, vitamins, etc. etc. put in. I'd rather take my vitamins in pill form than put them on my food and my horse seems to enjoy eating his food with no additives and doesn't mind me squirting some yogurt laced with electrolytes on the back of his tongue afterwards.
