[RC] Hawthorne Trees / Bushes in Pasture - Valerie NicosonHi all...I think we may have found our horse property. Will be putting a contract on it later today and wanted some inputs. The pasture is well grazed (not over grazed though) from cows, is open for the most part, tree lined edges, along with a gully filled with plenty of trees... total pasture is about 20 acres. But the one thing I noted the most is the Hawthornes. There's at least 1 large tree that is Hawthorne and an area of the pasture with a bunch of little ones...some really tiny and others that are knee high. Whether tiny or large they all had long, strong thorns on them. I was told the best way to get rid of them is to cut them down and keep the pasture short as they grow back from their roots. So wanting to hear some ideas and comments on how best to manage a pasture with these Hawthornes. Should we also take out the big Hawthorne tree or leave that one? Will likely have other questions and be seeking comments on other things yet. Thanks, Val (another horse is on the list...and for the freezer--a couple cows) + Sania (you mean I gotta live with *cows* too ??? They scare me!)
