My vote is that the innards and nutrition are still in the
hull, since my manure pile always has a great oat field on top of
it.(:>)

I think I have read that
what you are seeing in the manure is the hull of the oat, but the starchy
innards have been largely digested as they pass throught the digestive
system. Some of the fiber in the hull is indigestible. Now, I've never
actually separated an oat from my horse's manure and examined it that
closely. That would be icky. I don't do icky. Lots of real men don't do
