RE: [RC] Oats - Rae Callaway

Yes, icky is a job for women.  I've checked the oats in my horse's manure
and the whole thing was there, not just a hull.  As an added fact, those
whole oats in the manure would sprout and my entire manure pile turned into
a mini oat field.  Pretty, and nice camouflage.  In any case, feeling that I
was wasting my money on food that wasn't doing any good, I switched to a
pelleted feed.

  I think I have read that what you are seeing in the manure is the 
hull of the oat, but the starchy innards have been largely digested as 
they pass throught the digestive system. Some of the fiber in the hull 
is indigestible. Now, I've never actually separated an oat from my 
horse's manure and examined it that closely. That would be icky. I don't 
do icky. Lots of real men don't do icky.   Dr Q
