RE: [RC] [RC] How Long is Your Commute? - Juli JakubI live in the place I work...both my husband and I are employed by a private school and we live in a dorm with 36 teenage girls! So no commute to work. We do however have a 20 mile commute to take care of our horses. They live off the mountain in Jay, New York. It is 20 miles each way so I do 40 miles every morning and every night to take care of them. It is a small, windy, and often treacherous road in the winter although I must add it is also stunningly beautiful anytime of year. It is worth it though. It is always ten degrees or so warmer in Jay, spring hits about two weeks early and fall stays around two weeks longer. This may not seem like much but when you live in a place that regularly gets -30 degree weather and winter can start in October and go to the end of April that little better weather for the horses makes it all worth it. Plus they are on 176 acres with old logging trails that we are in the middle of fixing so they are horse ridable including some steep and fun ridge trails and on dead quiet roads so you can easily ride for miles on the roads with spectacular views of the High Peaks and mostly great footing on the edges. The lady is a co worker and lets us keep three horses for 150 bucks...basically the price per month her water and electricity went up. We always have great parties with her and her kids...bonfires, snowmobiling, wine, and good food. I wouldn't trade it although someday in the next few years she will sell and we will have to find another place...but I am not thinking about that! Sometimes a commute is worth it for your horses and your own happiness.

Juli Jakub

The Air of Heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears.

~ arabian proverb

From: "Valerie Nicoson" <hotgrey2trot@xxxxxxxxx> To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] How Long is Your Commute?
