Re: [RC] Founder question - Helen and Larry McMasterLif,I 've never heard of this, but in Dec. of 2004, we made the terrible decision to have our lovely mare, Ember, put down - she was insulin resistant and had re-foundered for the 3rd time. Even with her winter coat she was very bright and shiny. She had not had any grain for over a year, nor any apples, carrots or other treats - only rinsed beet pulp and hay ( which we had tested for sugar content ) She also was not fat. Horses with Cushings are not as likely to be shiny and they also are prone to founder. Helen Ont. I mentioned that somewhere along the line someone told me that sometimes an extraordinarily shiny coat, almost artificially shiny looking, is seen on a foundered horse. I have myself seen such a shiny coat on a foundered horse, and assumed it was connected because of this memory. I mentioned this on the other list and it was questioned - I have to admit that I'm not sure where I heard about the shiny coat/foundered horse connection, or if it's one of those jumbled memories that isn't based on anything at all. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
