Actually, I was so new to distance riding that the possibility never even entered my mind. Later when I read something about confirming that all riders were in, I wondered how we would have known if someone got behind us.
Even though the trail was really well-marked, the two of us lost it at one turn and wandered off a few yards before we looped around and found it again.
It is my hope that someone is not still out there wanering around.
