There is a good book called "Yoga for Equestrians" by Linda Benedik and Veronica Wirth. Another good book & videos: "Centered Riding" Here's what I've been doing. I'm trotting down a long straight desert road posting 1..2..1..2..weight legs..bump saddle. ***Hmmm. I don't think of weighting legs or bumping saddle. I think of a pelvic thrust from my hara (solar plexus, energy center) lifted effortlessly by the motion of the horse. A good exercise is to post while riding bareback!--no stirrups! Posting is a very small motion. Most people make it too big. Always my left leg is ahead of my right. ***Posting should be a symmetrical motion. Otherwise there is torque around the sacro-iliac joint that will eventually produce pain. Having someone on the ground watching from behind is a good way to look for symmetry. (Just before I did my first 50, I was having terrible sacroiliitis. I worked w/ my trainer for weeks to get the torque out of my post (had to do some stirrup adjustment, too). And I had not a twitch of pain after that!) "Centered Riding" has a wonderful drawing of being pulled skyward by the belt buckle for rising trot. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
