Re: [RC] training question or dental problem? - Diane TrefethenHi Juli,If you haven't had a vet who has had extra training in horse dentistry examine Spot's mouth, I would start there. IF there were a problem in his mouth that resulted in discomfort or pain when you ride with contact on the bit, the behaviors you describe are what I would expect. a) He bridles easily, b) tries to pull the reins away when you start hurting him, c) lets you have contact when an alternative is more painful or annoying but will revert to trying to stop you from hurting his mouth if the alternative is not constant. I do not mean have your regular vet just check his mouth (unless he has special credentials in horse dentistry). That would be a bit like asking a pediatrician to look at your child's teeth. When there's nothing wrong, he would be able to tell your child didn't have any mouth diseases and that the teeth were straight but if your kid had a problem, the pediatrician would want your child to see a dentist. Good luck, Diane =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
