Re: [RC] EPM recoveries - Christine WallisEd., My horse Frog's Knight, a.k.a., Peepers had Epm when he was 6 or 7. He fully recovered and went on to be First in Region 6 in Novice Heavyweight and Cp. He also was fourth in the Nation for our Team award. He did all this the two years following the year he had Epm. He is now 15 years old and my husband rides him along with two Jr. riders. However. I do know that the treatment is different now and I don't think as many horses recover as well. His treatment was long 6 months and had a complicated feeding schedule. He got so bad that he was falling down if he had to do any type of ground level changes. We kepted him in a small level lot and he could get into a stall if he wanted to. It took only a few months to get his stride and speed back but he had lost his ability to do a slow lope or canter. We would have to go to a FULL gallop and then slow down to a canter. Just this past year has he been able to go from a trot to a canter. Hope this helps, Chtistine Wallis and Peepers Region 6, Mo..
