Re: [RC] X-Racer anecdote - melanie . oI can always tell an exx-race horse. They are the ones with the good ground manners. They are the ones that don't get all upset when a four wheeler comes by. They are the ones that keep their brains when others are losing theirs. The see a lot, do a lot and a lot is expected of them on the track. Being around the track is good brain training for them. In college I worked at a large H/J barn in the East. One day while all the horses were turned out a hot-air balloon came crashing through the treetops that bordered the nearby river. It got lower over the manure field and finally crash-landed in our pasture. All the while it was trying to gain altitude (and not crash at our farm) by "whoosing" hot air up into the balloon. You guys know that sound. Very loud, esp. up close. Anyway, every horse was in a full on dither EXCEPT the 4yo OTTB. He casually grazed through the entire process. The rest, including a 30+yo beginner beginner appy school mare, had to come in before they tore through their fences. melanie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
