If the shoes have been on the horse for several weeks (ie, with a bit of hoof growth) we just clean the hoof well, including under the edge of the shoe, and apply the equi-build. We've had it stay in for weeks, and the sole/frog are both fine when it's removed. If the farrier happens to be due right before a rocky ride, we've used the mesh, with also excellent results. The mesh is very thin, and only the mesh goes between the shoe and hoof, so there's no padding in there to loosen the shoe. It's great stuff, and works well.
