Re: [RC] Fw: [AERCMembersForum] Hip Replacement - Barbara McCrary

Bravo to you, Dot. I just wish the medical profession had a similar solution for calcified and constantly painful shoulders. My husband could use two new ones.

I had both hips replaced in 1995 (June/Oct) Started riding in early 96.
Ridden every season since. At age 72 did 5 50s and 5 LDs. 73 and 74 have
only done LDs, it's kind of fun to get in and take care of the horse and
then take a nap.<g> At 75 I'm sort of thinking of trying a 50 or two this
year. (The horse is a potential 100 miler, she is just playing around on
LDs)
Be sure you find a Dr that understands you expect to be active. My Dr gave
me the choice of an appliance suitable for "Saturday afternoon bridge games"
, his words, or one for an athlete. He understood perfectly and put in the
toughest one he had, guaranteed for at least 20 years.
Didn't make me 40 again, but sure took away the pain.

I know several older ranchers that have ridden for years with new hips, and
knees too.
