Re: [RC] Leap(yes sir) froging - gingerodgersIf you can, when first attempting this training, choose horses that are accustomed to walking when asked rather than getting aggravated like yours. If you can't, the leap frogging should train all of them at the same time as long as you do it for a long enough period of time. When all horses quite trotting and just walk try stopping the leap frogging or just start calling your trail rides leap frogging rides instead until all horses have it under control. Another idea is to ask for the cooperation from your other fellow riders to stop when you ask them and when your horse starts to get prancy turn him in the opposite direction and make him trot away from the horses until he walks. Turn him back around when he walks as a reward. If he starts prancing again to get back, instantly turn him in the opposite direction and make him trot even farther away, etc., etc.. Might work! Has worked with some of mine. They start to feel as though they are getting nowhere by prancing other than farther and farther away. It's that mind trick thing again. I also use another technique when I am alone if you are having problems with being alone as well. If they start getting prancy, I will preoccupy their mind by weaving them around bushes, obstacles, etc.. It slows them down because they are concentrating on other things.
