I thought NASCAR came out of the bootleggers running hot cars full of moonshine trying to out run the feds, "Thunder Road." ;-)

I don't know what it was called, but I know there was a world wide points
championship when I was reading Endurance World but it was based on the
RIDER.

If I am not wrong (correct me if I am) the rider is who is rated at the USEF/FEI level. I don't believe the rating system used in Endurance World was any different that the one used in say eventing, dressage, etc. And yes it promotes going through horses and he with the most horses and the most money to pay exercise riders wins.
