Re: [RC] Broken leg pain - Glenda R. SnodgrassOn Fri, 18 Feb 2005, Amber Roberts wrote:I broke one ankle and the opposite foot last April 23 and still have burning pain in the area of those breaks. I'm sure the bones have healed by now but wonder about this continued, intermittent pain. Does anyone else who broke a leg have continued pain? Yes, it's fairly common from what I understand, although mine is more of a dull ache rather than burning, and I can feel it deep inside the bone. My physical therapist calls it "bone pain" and says it usually goes away after 2-3 years. That's what happened when I broke my foot 5 years ago, and now I'm experiencing it again with the arm I broke last year. My PT recommends arthritis-formula Tylenol and it does seem to work well. I feel the pain either when I've particularly stressed the area (standing up for a long period of time when it was my foot aching) or when there is a weather front moving through that causes a sudden change in barometric pressure. I also notice it aches when I'm very cold, so I've taken to wearing an "arm warmer" (a tube sock with the toe cut off, or a leg warmer like in Flashdance) on my recently-broken arm when it is cold, and that extra insulation helps a lot. -- Glenda R.
