Re: [RC] Endurance - longevity bloodlines... - heidiI believe it was Kat who pointed out that 2 of Les Carr's crossbreds & a mustang showed great "longevity" indicating that there's possibly a higher percentage of horses who stand the test of time outside the Arab breed, considering the percentage of Arabs involved in the sport. Is it possible that *people who don't ride for speed* are what increases the longevity, and they're more likely to be the types to compete a non Arab? One of Les Carr's crossbreds was a half-Arab quite deliberately bred for the sport. He was by our foundation stallion Surrabu (CMK) and out of an Appy mare that had some old-time (CMK) Arab crosses as well as some of the older Appy breeding.... Just a few others off the top of my head-- Rushcreek Ladd--CMK Rio--3/4 old breeding, mostly CMK RT Muffin--CMK DR Thunder Bask--5/8 CMK and 1/8 Babson--ie 3/4 old breeding Surrablue (above)--by a CMK stallion and out of an App mare w/CMK crosses Been meaning to go to the top mileage list and run some other pedigrees--those are the ones I just have on the top of my head. But keeping in mind that at this point, CMK is a small minority of the American gene pool, it sure has a bad habit of coming out in a lot more than 5% of the successes, whether one looks at longevity, Tevis wins, Haggin wins, FEI selection, or just about any other parameter. And also represented well above their frequency in the gene pool are Babson and pre-WWII Polish horses--very much the same type.
