Re: Re: [RC] Blown ACL - hrsldylorySounds like great therapy IF your ligament is still at least partially attached. Once the ligament is severed completely there is no way for it to re-attach itself. I have used prolotherapy on both me and my endurance horse with fabulous results. I decided to try prolo on my mare because everytime I had her chiropracticed, the stifle joint of her left leg was slightly out. She had a pasture injury years earlier when she had done a spread eagle move with her hind end. I figured at that time she probably injured her ligament and site of attachment to bone(the fibro-osseous junction, its called) around the stifle and damage to ligaments causes joints to become loose and weak. Prolotherapy works because it causes ligament and tendon growth, by injecting a mild irritant ( like dextrose and B12) at the fibro-osseous junction and /or tendon sites. I had 2 treatments done on her and now when my chiropractor comes, the stifle joint is always in place. Yea! I have also been having prolotherapy done on myself and I know many people who have done the same and we all have had incredible results and alot of pain relief. There is a book on Prolo out that is very informative! It is called "PROLO YOUR PAIN AWAY Curing Chronic Pain With Prolotherapy" by Ross Hauser. M.D. If you have trouble locating the book, let me know and I can give you the phone number of my doctor who has them available. The interesting thing is this mode of treatment has been around for 50 yrs and when one western medicine Surgeon was asked why they didn't incorporate this into their practice, she said she would be out of a job. HA> Hope this helps. The idea is to inject a concentrated saline into the ligament, which causes a local reaction. When that is healed, the resultant ligament is thicker, but histologically the same as an uninjured one.Quentin =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
