[RC] easy boots and mud - response to Cynthia E - Laura Hayes

I would respond privately, but only read the archives and can't retrieve your email from them.

I WOULD NOT use easy boots in the mud.  Being in the NE, I know how the mud is in this region - it is slick and gooey and DEEP in spots - for the most part, out west is a whole different footing.  I used ez boots out west last year and never had them move, or fill up, or fall off....not so in the east.

In my experience, you are just setting yourself up for frustration in the mud with boots on.  I have lost boots in mud and never found them!!!  I have spent more time on my knees sticking my hand in each foot hole, to say that the process stinks in more than one way!!

In addition to losing boots, there is the slip factor....even going slow and carefully, I have had horses slip in the mud while wearing easy boots.  You know those 4 wheeler ruts so prevalent on trails in the east?  They scream tendon and ligament damage as the horse's foot slips sideways and down....more so in boots.

I loved easy boots on my mares in the desert and the mountains of the XP 04 - one pair we had foamed on and the other mare just wore them over her shoes, and they were great--but it is a whole 'nuther ball of wax here in the muddy east.

Just MY experience-
