But, and here is the big BUT, only
if you singlemindedly select the offspring for 2 or 3 hundred years to run very
fast over short distances when they are young. You ignore any other
characteristics (disposition, good feet, whatever).
You could singlemindedly select
for very small horses for the same length of time and instead get a
pony.
You could singlemindedly select
for horses that could run 100 miles in 24 hours from the time they were 5 until
they had 10,000 miles of competition. You then, 200 years later, would
have great endurance horses.
