It's my understanding that both beet pulp and
alfalfa are calcium high on the calcium/phosphorus ratio, and that therefore
feeding them with rice bran actually balances out the high phosphorus of the
rice bran--any of our nutritionists/vets have comments on this?
Hi! I'm trying to fatten my horse up right now too, and I'm
using Nutrena Empower. I was using rice bran, but my friend informed me
of this alternative. Empower is better because the phosphorus-calcium ratio is
balanced, whereas rice bran isn't balanced. I feed beet pulp, and a lot of
grass/alfalfa hay as well. Empower is made up of high-fat rice bran, flaxseed,
trace minerals and some vitamin E and selenium as well. It says on the label
that it is 12% protein, 22% crude fat, and 6% fiber. Read more at the website:

My
horse likes the taste of it too. Good luck, Katie

Hello
looking for some advice for feed. I have done two LD rides and my gelding
did great. Ninth in the first and tenth in the second. I am looking for a
feed mix for a horse that drops weight during training. A freind of mine got
me using a Race Ready, which is not bad, but I would like to get back to a
mix that is not sweet. Race Ready is like 10% Protein and 12% Carbs which
seemed to keep a steady amount of weight during training. My boy adjusts
well to changes in his feed, but I always mix for a week or so. i also use
beet pulp too. Hope some one can
help,
