[RC] Reponse to Nancy Sturm - Carolyn BurgessWhoohoo Nancy! Go Standardbreds (OK, sorry to do that, but I love the breed). My current endurance horse is a 15.3H Standardbred gelding. His size is only an issue as I ride 50 miles. He gets bigger as I make my way through course (or maybe I'm just getting tired and he SEEMS bigger :-o). My only concern would be how heavy his muscling is. My guy is fairly heavily muscled, so managing heat with him is an issue. He does phenomenally well in the cooler weather, doesn't cramp or get tight. I would say that there are other factors that are more important than size, like conformation, athletic ability and desire to go down the trail, and willingness to eat and drink. Another factor that I found important is that the horse have an abundance of energy. Good luck and let us know if you get this horse. Carolyn Burgess <<So - I'm going to look at a horse in a few days who sounds like he's just the horse I need except that instead of being 14-1 he's 15-3. If everything else seemed right, would you rule out a horse because he's that big? This is another Standardbred, not an Arab.
