Re: [RC] [RC] Causes of Suspensory Injuries//Truman--Canter Leads - Truman Prevatt

Depends on the trail. If the trail winds around through the woods as many I ride on do, I just make sure he is on the correct lead for the upcoming turn. If it is straight trail I will probably have him switch every 100 to 200 meters or so. I sort of get into a rhythm and go with the flow. Same thing for posting diagonals on the trot.

***Truman and others who use canter as more efficient gait-- Do you, and if so, how and how often do you, encourage/coerce your horse to change leads? One of the horses I ride w/ energy/(canter<trot) really only likes to pick up L lead when allowed to choose his own gait and this would seem to generate problems of its own in terms of asymmetric development and fatigue, yes?

Thanks.
