RE: [RC] Weight Divisions - Chastain, Shannon L.This if very confusing to me I am a new AERC member as of early 2005. When I joined I was a heavy weight including Tack. I did my first LD as a heavy weight in April. Then I did not have another ride until October. During this time I lost about 15 pounds and my new tack was ~ 25 lbs lighter. This brought me down to the Middle Heavy weight. But I was told at the October ride I could not "change" my weight division, that was only allowed when you sign up each year and for one month in the summer. So that mostly takes care of anyone who thinks about being an opportunistic switcher. IN RESPONSE TO: I believe that the weight divisions should be in accordance with the riders weight alone, not with tack. I was at a ride where the rider didn't know if he should ride middleweight or heavyweight. He asked the ride manager how many and who were in the classes. She told him and he decided on heavyweight. I know what some of you are going to say, that it shouldn't have happened, but it does. Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
