Both those statements are BS gleaned from an anti gun book (I can't remember which one). The basic fallicy was that when looking at the statistics the anti-gun writer lumped all of those who produced a firearm during an attack together. If you remove assaults where the assaulted person went and got their gun AFTER THEY WERE INJURED from the unsuccessful attack column, the statistics go completely the other way. Unfortunately I do not have the reference handy, but I do know that it was in a reputable publication and done by a reputable profirearm person.
