Isn't Hi All, There are hills in Clermont Florida. As a matter of fact, I spent two months (about eight to ten rides) hauling 15 miles from my home to condition George there for Tevis. Although I know George was fairly fit when I got him from Ed and Kathi, I believe he really became truly ready for Tevis in those hills near Maris Ramsay's place. The elevation at Sugarloaf Mountain is near 300 feet, but there are a couple more with deep sand that climb hard for over 1/2 mile. One can get a fit horse's heart rate up to 180-200 there. That's enough for Tevis... I remember the first day I hauled George to Sugarloaf Mountain to train, (Sugarloaf is the grand-daddy of training ground for Tri-athletes). It was blazing hot in June and we had ridden down Sugarloaf mountain at a trot on the pavement. We were heading back up at a trot when George over-took a guy peddling his racing bike for all he was worth. That hill is so tremendous that the man could not go any faster than about 3-4 mph. George just trotted on by. Yeah for horse-power!! Becky
