Re: [Norton AntiSpam] Re: [RC] Conditioning Down Hills - Karen SullivanSome horses are good down hill horses hitting the ground. Some conformations help the horse be a good downhill horse. What I look for is a horse with a natural long walk with some easy natural overstride of his hind feet over his front at the walk. That means the horse can flex his back more naturally and will naturally and use his hind end better downhill. *Hi Truman, What do you consider a good overstride on a non-TWH horse? Reason I ask is that a friend was watching the gelding I have, the Arab/standardbred cross, while being ponied and said he had at least a 17" overstride at the walk. He was walking fast to keep up with the mustang I was riding....the mustang has a very fast walk also, and lately has also been motoring into a running walk.... Regarding the discussion several months back on Arab/standardbred crosses...this guy I have looks more like a pure Arab, will be interesting to see how he moves when he is more fit. hint: check out horse classifieds.... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
