Re: [RC] Interesting History of Start Location of Tevis - Barbara McCraryIn December of 1959, Lud and I went to Sacramento to a cattle show featuring our favorite breed, Polled Herefords. After the show, we drove on over to Reno and stayed overnight. As I remember, we stayed at some little motel right in downtown Reno on the Truckee River. For breakfast, we drove to Sparks which then was some distance from Reno, out in the country. (My, how the area has changed!!) Then we drove up to Squaw Valley to see the construction of the facilities for the Olympics which were to be held there in February. Our company had supplied the lumber to build the ski jump on the side of the mountain. I distinctly remember people bustling about, hammers pounding and general construction taking place. The most memorable thing about this image was the dust blowing around. There wasn't a flake of snow to be seen anywhere. We wondered how there was going to be any competition if there wasn't any snow. It must have arrived before the Olympics, as they did take place. I also remember driving over Donner Pass on the OLD highway, twisty and winding. This was before I-80 was built, if I remember correctly.Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve" <eqperform@xxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, December 22, 2005 9:34 AM Subject: [RC] Interesting History of Start Location of Tevis
